DIY Spooky and Fun Halloween Tree! Household Items and Paint Used To Create This Craft!

Halloween tree plain

I have seen Halloween Trees decorated in the stores and thought that they looked really cute.  However, I also thought to myself, “I can make this! and it would probably be cheaper and A LOT more fun as a family craft.” I was right!

I also told the kiddos I was thinking about making one of these, and they were completely on board and ready to craft.

Since I am a firm believer in using what I have and upcycling, I grabbed a container of sample black paint I got from Lowe’s for free, a branch, a Terracotta pot I had in my backyard, and other misc things around the house.

Halloween tree DIY items

What we used:

A tree branch (sturdy with lots of little branches coming off)

Small Terracotta pot

Black paint

Sponge Paint Brushes

Cardboard

Paper fill (you could also use newspaper, and paint it black once it is in place on top of the pot)

Candy Corn

Decorations

How we did it:

We first painted the pot and tree branch black.  I let this dry over night. (I highly suggest doing this outside or in the garage.  Black paint can get pretty messy.) Then, I put paper fill into the pot, cut a piece of cardboard to fit over this.  I poked a hole in the cardboard and pushed the tree branch through this. FYI, I did this to support the decorations and the branch in the pot.

I would have liked it plain as well! Looks spoooooky!

This was then topped off with more fill and I added candy corn. You will also notice the branch looks different, that is because I needed a sturdier one and had to redo that part. I then put the decorations on and placed it in a highly visible area.  I picked up Halloween ornaments for the kids to color from Michael’s that were on clearance. 🙂

This craft was that simple, and was truly a collaborative effort from both my older kids and me.  We all painted, and I assembled the tree for them. It was fun and I LOVE that we did it as a family! I think this would even be a fun way to display candy for Halloween by hanging it, and then using this as way to give out goodies at a party.

Do you create anything like this in your home? If so, what do you do and what do you display?

If you decide to put your own DIY Spooky and Fun Halloween Tree together, let me know how it goes.

What a great idea. It really does look creepy and spooky and I can't believe how easy it was to make. This is a very creative idea for Halloween.
