Learning the letter G and Macaroni Art

Today we are learning about the letter G.

One of my kid’s favorite activities is macaroni art. It is so easy to setup. All you need to get started  is paper, glue, macaroni (or any pasta you have) and a little imagination.

Since we are learning the letter G, we used green paper, drew a letter G on the paper, and I discussed that green and glue start with the letter G.  Depending upon your child’s maturity, you will need to watch them and help them with the glue.  Plus, macaroni can be a choking hazard for the little ones, so they should be supervised.

Macaroni art is a great way to teach them hand eye coordination since they are applying the glue and the macaronis.

Once this craft was completed, I printed out the letter G sheet for coloring, from First School Letter G Worksheet and discussed the items pictured.

Finally we ate grapes for a snack and read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The Giving Tree 40th Anniversary Edition Book with CD
“The Giving Tree is a tale about a relationship between a young boy and a tree in a forest. The tree always provides the boy with what he wants: branches on which to swing, shade in which to sit, apples to eat, branches with which to build a home. As the boy grows older he requires more and more of the tree. The tree loves the boy very much and gives him anything he asks for. In the ultimate act of self-sacrifice, the tree lets the boy cut her down so the boy can build a boat in which he can sail. The boy leaves the tree, now a stump. Many years later, the boy, now an old man, returns and the tree says, “I have nothing left to give you.” The boy replies, ” I do not need much now, just a quiet place to sit and rest.” The tree then says, “Good! A tree stump is a great place to do just that! Come boy, sit down and be happy.” The boy obliged and the tree was happy” Source Wikipedia July 2010

I hope you and your little ones enjoy learning about the letter G.
