Cranberry Banana Snack Mix

Since the start of the New Year, I have been taking steps to increase exercise, get proper sleep, and eat healthier. So far the benefits from this have been additional energy, improved mood, and of course better long term health.

I have found that I am enjoying walking and appreciating the taste of “better for me” food choices. Plus, a healthier lifestyle is contagious and I am hoping that my example will encourage those around me to live Heart Healthy as well.

One of the easiest ways start on the path to better eating is through small steps like snack choices, and General Mills has 3 foods that are a great option for this, Cheerios + Ancient Grains, Gluten Free Chex Granola Mix, and Nature Valley Nut Crisp Bars.

Cheerios Ancient Grains Trail Mix with Dried Cranberries

So far I have tried the Cheerios + Ancient Grains, and it is delicious. I even decided to create a fun and tasty treat with it, that my kids can also enjoy.

Cranberry Banana Snack Mix – Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

2 Cups of Cheerios + Ancient Grains

1/2 Cup of Dried Cranberries

1/2 Cup of Dried Bananas

1/4 Cup of Sliced Almonds

Cheerios Ancient Grains Trail Mix

Directions:

Simply combine the ingredients and store in an air tight container. Serve as a snack or breakfast item, and Enjoy!

Cheerios +Ancient Grains has only 5 grams of sugar and contains grains like KAMUT wheat, spelt, and quinoa. The toasted whole grain oats and clusters are lightly sweetened and have 12 Vitamins & Minerals.  They are Low in Fat are cholesterol free, and may Reduce Risk of Heart Disease.*

    I would use multi grain dark chocolate crunch cheerios to make cereal bars. My mom made these while I was growing up and now I make them. Always a favorite at Christmas parties too! Easy to make.

    What??? Fruity Cheerios? Where have these been all my life? (I love a bowl of sweet cereal every now and then as a late night snack. I'm guessing those Cheerios would be slightly healthier than many other choices)

    I would start with the Cheerios Protein, since the younger children are not as interested in foods high in protein as they are in others--hard to keep them away from carbs and sweets.
