I don’t know about you, but I find Sea Turtles absolutely fascinating. They travel so many miles over their life spans and if they avoid the many dangers of the oceans, they can live to be over 100 years old.
Locally my kids and I have visited a rehabilitation facility and understand the importance of protecting our waters in order to ensure the survival of this important species.
Of course, what makes us appreciate these reptiles even more is understanding their journey as well as seeing the gorgeous habitat that they explore in. Turtle Odyssey: Bunji’s Big Adventure 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray does exactly that and does such a great job of explaining the life cycle of the Green Sea Turtle.
My daughter and I viewed this IMAX Enhanced film and got to glance into the nest of a turtle, saw a hatchling make her way to the surface, watched a young sea turtle survive dangers in the great big ocean, and eventually observed that very same Turtle lay eggs.
About Turtle Odyssey: Bunji’s Big Adventure 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray:
For over 100 million years, Sea Turtles have traversed the seas, surviving multiple mass extinctions and playing critical roles in maintaining a healthy, marine food chain.
Turtle Odyssey, narrated by Russell Crowe, explores the unique lifecycle of an Australian Sea Turtle named Bunji and her incredible journey across the ocean. The film follows Bunji from a hatchling into adulthood as she swims thousands of miles, meeting incredible creatures and having some truly wild encounters.
The film utilizes the new IMAX Enhanced technology, which offers an expanded aspect ratio and immersive sound for an incredible home viewing experience. It also contains a Bonus Feature of an Interview with Dr. Ian Bell, Senior Conservation Officer.
After we watched the film, I was inspired by the movement of the Sea Turtle to create a Paper Plate Craft.
If you would like to recreate this Sea Turtle Craft, details are below:
What you will need:
2 Green Paper Plates
2 Googly Eyes
Paper Fasteners
Glue Stick
Safety Scissors
Hole Punch
Tip: Most of these items can be located at a Dollar Store.
Directions:
To get started, first cut out a front leg from one side of a paper plate. Then, use this to cut out an equal sized leg on the the other side of the paper plate.
Next, cut out the hind legs from the paper plate, a tail, and a head.
Glue on the googly eyes to the head and attach the head to the top of the other paper plate with the glue.
Then, arrange the front legs and use the hole punch. Place a paper fastener through each of these to attach the limbs.
To finish, do the same thing with the tail and the 2 bottom limbs by punching a hole through all 3. Then, use another fastener to attach all the pieces to the bottom of the sea turtle.
Allow the glue to dry and you will then have a Paper Plate Sea Turtle Craft with legs and a tail that can move just like Bunji.
