Ways To Get Kids Active To Promote a Healthy Lifestyle!

The following post is sponsored by Florida KidCare and opinions expressed are that of my own.

IN A WORLD FULL OF TECHNOLOGY, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO GET MY CHILDREN ENGAGED IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE.

I hope to encourage good habits while they are young to help them prevent issues like obesity or attempt to avoid conditions like diabetes and heart disease. Healthychildren.org recommends, “Your goal should be to do some type of exercise every day. It is best to do some kind of aerobic activity without stopping for at least 20 to 30 minutes each time.”

ARE YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH HABITS A CONCERN AND WANTING TO DISCUSS AN ACTION PLAN WITH A PHYSICIAN? FLORIDA KIDCARE OFFERS PREVENTIVE CARE, INCLUDING HEALTH AND DENTAL COVERAGE.

All three of my kiddos have been involved in sports this year and my daughter is participating in tumbling, however when we are at home I want to make sure that they are continuing to remain active.

Normally in the summer the kids would be getting in the pool or playing in the sprinkler, but now that it is getting cooler it is time to switch gears and look for other ideas. The positives are the kiddos get to burn off energy, have fun, and it should cost little to none for parents to set this up.

Wanting to Find Ways to Get Kids Active to Promote A Healthy Lifestyle? Check out my ideas below.

HOUSE OR YARD WORK –

Vacuuming or dusting, or simply pulling weeds, depending upon your child’s age and ability, they should be able to help maintain where a family lives. It is a great way to exercise, teach responsibility, plus families can spend time together working towards a common goal.

SETTING UP OBSTACLE COURSES –

Using empty containers or boxes, it is easy to arrange an obstacle course around your home for kids to conquer. Whether navigating a soccer ball through it, crawling under a broom stick, or jumping over a crack in the cement, it is simple to get these athletes aka ninjas in action.

PLAYING SPORTS –

Our kids’ school offers low cost sports team options, however if this doesn’t work with a schedule or budget, it is just as easy to play ball in the front or back yard.

WALKS OR BIKE RIDING AS A FAMILY-

This can be in your neighborhood or simply finding a local park or a family friendly area to take a stroll, either way it is probably one of the easiest things to arrange. If it is raining outside, parents and kiddos can head to a local mall to exercise together.

YARDS GAMES –

We happen to have a cornhole toss set I picked up over the summer, and the kids as well as adults enjoy playing together. In addition, it is just as easy to make your own Carnival Style games. Check out my post DIY Yard Games Made From Plastic Bottles for more details.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR YOUR CHILD’S NEXT WELLCARE APPOINTMENT AND YOU RESIDE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA?

From birth through the end of age 18, Florida KidCare‘s health and dental services are delivered through quality plans that offer a choice of local doctors, dentists, specialists, hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare providers.

This includes free, subsidized and full-pay options based on family income and household size. Most families pay nothing at all, and many pay as little as just $15 or $20 a month for all children in the household. Families who do not qualify for free or subsidized coverage may purchase a competitively priced full-pay plan. To learn more about Florida KidCare insurance options available for your family, visit iamkidcare.org.

I hope you find these ways to get kids active to promote a healthy lifestyle informative and your family has a great time hanging out together!

I think my nephews & niece are pretty good at staying active. They all have sports teams they play on, which really helps a lot.

We make a point to go outside and play after dinner for an hour or two. We take a walk to the park or play soccer or baseball in our backyard.

I have them help me rake leaves. Not their favorite. Definitely the yard games would be more fun and their preference. I try and limit TV/game/computer time.

Most of my kids are great at being active. I do have to encourage one, who would rather read. We like to take hikes as a family and play games such as corn hole and bowling.

I went a step further from telling my child to "go out and play". I organized neighborhood kickball games and volleyball games. I took my daughter on hikes. We took her fishing. We set the example by being active. It is easier to do by example than lecture, just as you say. Thanks for the suggestions!

Good ideas for getting them to live an active lifestyle. So many stay inside glued to the TV or other electronics
