I Got My Smooth Top Range Clean Today! A Frugal Living Tip!

disclosure-for-site

Thanks to the advice of Home EC 101, I was able to get my dirty and dingy looking Smooth Top Range Clean.

Since we moved into this house back in October, I have been puzzled on how to get my Range back to looking as pretty as it did the day we moved in.  I had tried 409, dish soap, and just wipping hard with a paper towel, but none of my efforts paid off.  I just figured that at some point, I would need to purchase a new top if I wanted it to look nice again.

Before

So today I was cleaning my counter tops and decided to do some housekeeping and cleaning research about my problem.  I came across an article by Home EC 101 called How To Clean a Smooth Top Range/ Stove.  One of the recommendations was to use Bar Keepers Friend, and since that is a staple in our house, I crossed my fingers that it would work.

First off, I made sure the stove was cool (This is so I don’t burn myself or crack the stove top). Then,  of course I tested a small area first with the Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser and Polish, to verify that I would not ruin it, but it worked fine.  And, after some scrubbing with a paper towel and water, the stove now looks brand new. FYI, I made sure all of the product was removed after by wetting another paper towel and wiping it clean.

After

I am really excited about these results!  Now, this may not work for everyone’s surface so I recommend testing a small area first.  If this does not work for you, check out the other ideas at How To Clean a Smooth Top Range/ Stove.

Do you have any tips as well for cleaning a Smooth Top Range?  I would love for you to comment below, so it can be shared with others.

Just want you to know there are special cleaners on the market to clean these stoves. I just purchased my smooth top range in March. I was give a nice size sample of "affresh" cooktop cleaner. You can find this in your grocery store. I have even seen it in Walmart. Then I took it upon myself to get the Whirlpool Cooktop Cleaner and Cooktop "Protectant" these two bottles will probably last me over a year or better. So do becareful of what you put on these types of stores. You also have to remember not to scratch it. I check all the bottom of my pots and pans before playing them on this type of stove.

Recently, my daughter asked me about cleaning her stove top and I have the same kind. It's a pain to try to clean and it still doesn't look good. I'll be trying this tonight. THANKS!

I use welmans cooktop cleaner and if it is a real bad stain or burn..I use a flat edge razor tool..it does not mark it up I have done it for years on burned sections

I use baking soda mixed with water to clean my smooth top and it works great! You mix 3 tsp. of baking soda with 2 tsp. of water and pour it on the spots that need cleaning rub with a damp cloth or paper towel and it works great. I double this sometimes and if the stain or burn is stubborn I will leave it several hours or overnight with the damp cloth on top and it comes off very easy. With using the baking soda you know that it will not damage the top of the range.

I miss my gas stove so much. I have worried about trying this, but it looks like it's very doable and safe for the stove. Iwill have to give it a whirl. Have you tried baking soda? It works pretty darn well, but I bet bartenders friend works better. It (bartender's) works great on my stainless steel pans!

I bought a flat cooktop about 8 years ago. They told me I had to buy cooktop cleaner or I could damage my cooktop. Well I used exactly 1 bottle. There are 3 things that I use to keep mine looking new. First, I clean it after every use. No exceptions. Second of all, if I get a spill over, I use a razor blade scraper. And my secret cleaner? I use Soft Scrub and a green scrubby with the yellow sponge attached. Can't beat it. After all these years I still have a stove that looks like the day I bought it and mine is white as well so there's no cheating. I will never buy the commercial cleaner again!

I'm definitely going to try this! I've tried baking soda, and that was a bust. I bought a cleaner for cooktops at Home Depot. Magic Eraser was about the best. I usually use Soft Scrub. I hope this does it.

This works on cooked on jelly from using a too - small pan! My hubby was appalled at the bokiled-over mess, but we have a new can of BKF, and it saved my bacon! Had to scrub hard, and no damage to the cooktop. Yay!

I use a magic eraser, with a tiny drop of dish soap - hardly have to scrub at all, and the wipe dry - it's magic!!
