I have been a Box Tops for Education Coordinator at my children’s school for almost 3 years now. First hand experience has taught me how quickly these small pieces of paper can add up to a large sum of money.
In fact our school has used these funds to purchase playground equipment, teaching clocks for our 3rd graders, materials to improve our grounds, and so much more. When I shop, I definitely look for specially marked products with Box Tops for Education.
Hefty understands the importance of this and is the only trash bag brand that supports Box Tops for Education. They have raised more than $3 million in contributions to schools by partnering with this program.
For a limited time, you will find specially marked packages of Hefty Odor Block Trash Bags featuring 4 Box Tops for back to school at your local grocery retailer. I located packages of Hefty Odor Block Clean Citrus near the paper products in Walmart.
Now a Box Tops for Education program can only be successful based on the individuals that volunteer. It involves the students, parents, teachers, and administrators. I am very lucky to have a great group that supports our school.
Initially I was putting together a Teacher Appreciation Basket to drop off at the beginning of the school year, however I decided to make this special delivery to our School’s Administrative Assistant over the summer. She has been such a cheerleader for the program and has continued to work over the break.
If you would like to recreate this Teacher Appreciation Basket (or Administrator), you will need:
Hefty Odor Block Trash Bags featuring 4 Box Tops
1 Clear Plastic Container (I found mine on the aisle where business supplies are at Walmart)
1 Coffee Cup
1 Package of Pens
1 Package of Herbal Tea
1 Package of Gourmet Chocolates
1 Package of Filler Paper
Printer
Tape
Scissors
Directions:
First place Filler Paper into the container and arrange the items throughout. FYI, I placed the Herbal Tea inside of the Coffee Cup.
To complete, print out 2 – 4×6 Box Tops for Education Logos, cut and tape, and then attach to the front and back of the box. I actually got my logo from the Coordinators resource page.
It is that easy to assemble this gift and the best part of course was seeing how excited our school’s administrative assistant was. She was so grateful, and now we have a new collection box for the office with 4 Box Tops from the Hefty Trash Bags to start with.

Does your school participate in Box Tops for Education? What items in addition to Hefty Trash Bags would you add to your Appreciation Basket?
I am looking forward to making more baskets like this, and continuing to raise awareness for Box Tops for Education.
