Organized laundry with totes chalkboard labels

Organizing a Laundry Room and looking for an inexpensive way to do it?

This week, I went to the Dollar Tree and took advantage of the back to school merchandise deals and picked up 5 plastic box totes to use in my laundry room. Total cost was $5.

In addition, I wanted these boxes to also have chalkboard labels, so I went to Michael’s and found these over in the scrap booking sticker area. (I used a 40% off coupon and they were around $3-$4 for a pack of $12). Here they are on Amazon Chalkboard Stickers.

My laundry room has pretty much been in disarray since we moved in almost 2 years ago. However, with life, animals, and 3 kids and all the chaos that comes with it, I never took the time to get it in order.

Things that should have been lower were highest up on the shelf, and vice versa. We also use this room to store a number of things, and the room was just not very efficient. I found myself having to get a stool or ask hubby to get items down for me all the time.

It took me only an hour or so and I had this area completely organized. I labeled things like CAT, DOG, Cleaners, Laundry, etc. I threw away empty bags and containers, recycled what I could, and moved the paper towels, toilet paper, and tissues down lower since we use those items all the time.

Plus, I moved the carpet cleaning products, mop products, and dusting items up high since I use those less. (FYI, I had the canvas baskets and little mini chalkboards from a few years back. I clipped the chalkboards onto the canvas covers with safety pins. I found some similar items here on Amazon Mini Chalkboards and Woven Seagrass Storage Utility Baskets.)

After looking at the before and after photos, it occurred to me how big of a mess this area really was.

Laundry Room Before and After Organization with Totes

Have you embarked on a project like this recently? If so, what room did you organize?

I feel such a sense of accomplishment and relief.  Plus, I feel even better that it was so cheap to complete, it cost me less than $10!

I hope this post gives you some inspiration and ideas as well!

This is very inspiring. I only have a small laundry room but now I know what should go in it. I am happy you added the mop and dusters.

I love the before-and-after comparison. This is such a cute and affordable idea. We redid our laundry room recently, but I could borrow some of these ideas of the neatly labeled totes in our garage.
