Thanks to Kathryn Cloward, the author of the Kathryn the Grape series, I was sent a new book to review called “Kathryn The Grape’s Colorful Adventure” here on Frugal and Fun Mom.
If you are looking for books for your kids that build confidence and self-esteem, I highly recommend this series. This is the second book that I have been fortunate enough to review here on my site, and previously, I have reviewed “Kathryn the Grape Just Like Magic“.
“Kathryn The Grape’s Colorful Adventure”, which was written by Kathryn Cloward with Ginny Hornby and Illustrated by Christine Winscott, is about a little girl named Kathryn who is feeling like she is not loved by her family and that her opinions don’t count. Instead of using her words and explaining how she feels, Kathryn the Grape acts out and ends up being sent to her room without any dinner.
Through the help of her imaginary butterfly friend Maggie, Kathryn the Grape realizes through a colorful adventure that she has the tools to not only explain her feelings, but that deep down she knows that her family truly does love her.
What I really like about this book, is the fact that my two older children can relate to many of the things that Kathryn the Grape is going through. Whether it is feeling a little left out, feeling jealous of a sibling, or not getting their way, and acting inappropriately, both of my kids have experienced this at some point. As we read the book together, I pointed those situations out to them, and they knew exactly what I was talking about.
I asked them what their favorite part of the book was, and my 6-year-old son said he like the parts about family and loving them, and my 3-year-old daughter just said, Kathryn’s favorite color is purple, just like me!
