My Favorite Things About Easter!

Tis the season for Easter Eggs, Candy, and Little Bunnies, but these are not the only things about Easter that make it a special time for our family.
SocialMoms and Universal Pictures have teamed up to introduce a fun, new blogging program that asks Mom Bloggers like myself, “What is your favorite thing about Easter?”
Well, I started to think back to the many traditions of my youth and reflected on the ones that I have carried over into my own home as an adult.

So here are a few of my Favorites:

Picking out the Easter Outfit. When I was younger, it was always a big deal to go out and find a special outfit for Easter.  We would head out, just us girls, and look for a pretty dress to wear to church.  When I was really little, we would also get a matching hat, purse, and shoes to go along with it.

Now as an adult, I have started this same tradition for my little girl. This past year, I went out and hunted the perfect dress for her.  So needless to say, I will be doing it again this year.

Preparing the Basket: Obviously, when I was really small, I had no idea of the effort that my mom put into making my sisters and me a special Easter Basket.  As I got older I realized that she was the preparer and not the infamous Easter Bunny.  I also realized how important it was to my mom that we had a awesome basket filled with all of our favorites. One of the things she would also do is try to add something special that was specifically for each child.

My husband and I have continued this same tradition in our own family. Of course, we have the usual jelly beans, peeps, and plastic eggs, but we make sure we add a special something that we know each one of our children will really like.

Easter Sunday:  Easter Sunday is a big production in our family.  We get up early, the kids check out their baskets, and then we head to church as a family.  Sometimes, I have even made a special Easter breakfast with special Bunny Pancakes (That resemble a Mouse).
These same traditions are similar to what we did when I was a little girl.  My grandfather, mom, dad, sisters, and any Aunts and Uncles that were around, would all head over to church together.  Then afterward, we would have an Easter Egg Hunt and then head to a relatives for Easter Dinner. This was a day that was reserved for spending time with family, and usually we would catch up with extended family that we normally did not see on a regular basis. Often times we would head over to my Great Grandmother’s house.
Easter Afternoon. As mentioned earlier, after church we usually had an Easter Egg hunt and would then head over to a relatives house for Easter Dinner.  As an adult we have altered this slightly.  We now have our lunch first at my parents, and then have an Easter Egg Hunt after with all the cousins.
The dinner is probably one of the main highlights of my day, because frankly, I love to eat.  It usually consists of a ham, deviled eggs, rolls, veggies, and my mom’s awesome potato salad.  After lunch, we then move onto the Easter Egg hunt.
One of the adults heads out and hide the eggs, and since all my sisters have little ones that are all close in age, this is an absolute blast.
Needless to say, Easter like many of the other holidays we celebrate, is important to our family. We really try to make it fun for the kids and make the time we spend together special and memorable for us all.
Are there any things about Easter, that are your favorites?  If so, please share, I would love to hear about any of your special traditions.
About the movie HOP:
Hop is a comedy about E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand), the teenage son of the Easter Bunny. On the eve of taking over the family business, E.B. leaves for Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer. Once there, he encounters Fred (James Marsden of the X-Men series, Enchanted), recently fired and determined to pull his life together. Feigning injury, E.B. persuades Fred to take him in, and Fred finds himself living with the world’s worst houseguest. Back on Easter Island, the Easter Bunny’s second in command, an oversized chick named Carlos, seizes E.B.’s disappearance as an opportunity to plot a coup. Ultimately, Fred and E.B. are Easter’s only hope and they find themselves returning to Easter Island, locked in an epic battle to save the beloved holiday. The film is helmed by Tim Hill, director of the blockbuster Alvin and the Chipmunks and produced by Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me).
