Using A Tie-Dye Kit On White Face Masks!

disclosure-for-site

November 5, 2020 Carlee at Fun Learning Life 49 Comments

A special thanks you goes out to Horizon Group for sending my family a Tie-Dye Kit to review. With everything going on in the world right now, it was nice to be able to turn an uncomfortable situation into something positive.

So my 2 younger kiddos recently went back to in person school and I have to say that there was a lot of nerves involved.

Of course I was worried how they would transition from their online learning environment to in person, as well as if they could adjust to wearing a mask for a longer period of time.

Neither one of them were too excited about having to wear a mask all day at school, but we have remained positive.

Not only have we been encouraging, but have had them try out different kinds of masks to help them feel more comfortable.

We had received a couple packs of white cotton masks from area organizations and I told my daughter that we would also customize those with Tie-Dye to make them special for her.

Now this is not our first experience with a Tie-Dye Kit and we actually dyed a couple shirts as well as masks over the summer.

This is not only a fun way to have a kid express their creativity, but it was a great way to encourage them to wear a mask.

Now if you find yourself also in possession of white masks and you want to add your own personal flair, check out how we used a Tie-Dye Kit on White Face Masks.

What you will need:

Just My Style Radical Rainbow Tie-Dye Kit (includes gloves and rubber bands)

Plain White Face Masks

Paper towels

Plastic Zip Bags

Bowl

Water

A protected surface

Directions:

In advance, wash your face masks and prepare your working surface with a table cloth or cardboard. I also suggest wearing an apron to protect clothing.

Then, put on protective gloves and fill your Tie-Dye water bottles up with water.

Next, dip the face masks in water (the instructions recommend warm water) and squeeze out the excess. Then, start wrapping the rubber bands around the individual face mask to create a design.

Next, add the dye to the section and be generous to make sure the fabric is saturated.

Add the complete face mask to a zip bag and set aside for 24 hours. When you finish, wipe the surface clean with the paper towel for the next mask to be dyed.

After 24 hours, remove the rubber bands from the face masks and rinse them out until the water runs clear. Allow them to completely dry to set the color.

Before your first use, wash the face masks separately (you may want to continue to wash separately for the first couple of times) and enjoy your very own unique designs.

Have you ever tie-dyed before? What items have you dyed?

My daughter has been wearing her new masks to school as well as to my son’s football games. She has enjoyed showing off her new designs and having a variety of colors to wear for each day of the week.

Yes, I do tie-dye quite a bit. I generally do t-shirts but have done sheets and tapestry as well. My favorite is ice-dying.

I have tie-dyed. I have a small girl scout troop, at their summer camp I always have them tie-dye t-shirts. It's my daughter's favorite camp activity!
