Apple Pie Taco Boats!

My family have been huge fans of Old El Paso products for years. In fact many a busy weeknight has been saved by the convenience of their taco kits.

Well recently I found a new way to utilize one of their products, and I must admit that my Apple Pie Taco Boats were a big hit.

Now to give a little back story, I have actually been meaning to experiment with Apple Pie Filling and Tortillas for a while.

When I heard about the Old El Paso Mini Taco Boats I knew these would be a perfect way to put my dessert together.

The kiddos and I headed over to our local Walmart to pick up a package as well as find items we needed to assemble the Apple Pie creations.

After getting Apple Pie Filling in the baking area along with grabbing the Party Size 20 Count Pack of Old El Paso Mini Taco Boats, we then picked up a 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream and added caramel sauce to our cart.

After school the next day, I decided to put together this treat and it was an absolute success. Since we got more than enough to make another round, we are going to assemble this dessert again to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

If you would like to recreate our Apple Pie Taco Boats, details are below!

Apple Pie Taco Boats (Serves 7)

7 Old El Paso Mini Taco Boats

Cinnamon

Sugar

Butter

Apple Pie Filling

Caramel Sauce

Optional: Ice Cream (but highly recommended)

Directions:

First melt a 1/4 cup of butter in the Microwave. Then take a pastry brush and coat the inside of the Old El Paso Mini Taco Boats with a thin layer of butter.

Next sprinkle a thin layer of cinnamon and then sugar inside. (Tip: Place your extra Taco Boats into a plastic resealable bag for future desserts or dishes.)

Place the Cinnamon Sugar Taco Boats on a cookie sheet or pan in the oven for 7 minutes at 325 degrees.

Then pour the apple pie filling in a microwave safe bowl and cover with a paper towel.

Cook the apples from 1-2 minutes until completely heated through. (Tip: Cut the apple slices into smaller pieces)

Once the Taco Boats are browned, add in 1/3 cup of the Apple Pie Filling into each.

Then top this with caramel drizzle or add one scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle.

This dessert is warm and messy, and ready to serve immediately with a fork. However you will probably want to pick it up with your hands once you eat some of the filling and it has cooled, either way you will definitely need napkins.

Looking for other Cinco de Mayo celebration ideas? Check out the following tips.

1. Pass out decorative beads to family members

The best way to get a party started is with beads. We just so happen to have a bunch left over from previous community parades.

2. Decorate with colorful cups and party favors

Just by adding a little color to your table can immediately make it festive. Plus, if you add Mini Sombreros, the kids get a kick out of trying to wear them.

3. Use frozen margarita glasses for dips

Not only are margarita glasses pretty for your favorite beverage, but they are also functional for keeping dips or salsa cool.

4. Take advantage of short cuts so you can spend more time partying

Old El Paso makes a variety of products to take the guess work out of recipes. I am also looking forward to trying the Taco Boats out with traditional Meats like Ground Beef and Pulled Chicken. FYI, if you are trying to reduce clean up time, consider assembling individual layer dips in your Taco Boats like this Kid Friendly Seven Layer Dip.

Look for Old El Paso Mini Taco Boats as well as other Tortilla products at your local Walmart!

5. Play festive music

Tune into a Mexican Radio station that plays jams that would be fun for the entire family.

I hope you family gets a kick out of these Apple Pie Taco Boats, and find my tips helpful as you host an upcoming Cinco de Mayo celebration!
