Dad -You Are My Sunshine Craft, A Father’s Day Activity!

Father’s Day will be here shortly and why not tell Dad just how AWESOME he is, by sending a little sunshine his way.

My kids have enjoyed creating an easy and fun activity for their Dad this year called the “Dad, You Are My Sunshine Craft.” Plus, they are eagerly anticipating telling their Father the many reasons why they love him so much with this Father’s Day Activity.

If you would like to recreate this Dad -You Are My Sunshine Craft, Father’s Day Activity you will need the following:

1 White Paper Plate
2 to 3 pieces of light colored card stock or construction paper
A yellow or orange crayon
Black or dark marker
Safety scissors
Glue

I purchased the paper plates at a Dollar Store, and most of the other items can be found there or at a craft store.

Directions:

First have your child cut out the rays of the sun. The plates we used had notches already on the sides, so we used that as our guide. Depending upon their maturity, children may or may not need additional assistance from a parent.

Next color the sun. My daughter used the yellow and my oldest son decided to mix both colors for a pretty effect.

Then, write “Dad (or Daddy) you are my sunshine” in the middle of the plate with the marker. After that, have your child write his or her name on the back with the year.

Once the writing is in place, cut out small hearts to go along the outside of the sun in alternating colors.

My kids actually asked me to do this for them. To get started I first cut out a template and used that to trace out the other 6 hearts.

Next have your child brainstorm the words that best describe what they like about their Dad. Have them use the marker again to write down one word on each of the hearts.

Finally, glue the hearts along the outside of the sun. Make sure to completely cover the backs and allow time for it to dry. Optional: Attach magnets to the back so that the sun can be hung on a fridge or file cabinet.
