Ways To Start Saving Money On Your Energy Bill!

A special thank you goes out to FPL for sponsoring this post “Ways To Start Saving Money on Your Energy Bill”, opinions expressed are that of my own.

WITH SUMMER STILL HEATING UP, IT IS IMPORTANT NOW MORE THAN EVER FOR FLORIDA FAMILIES TO TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR ENERGY BILL.

RECENTLY, I RESEARCHED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ADDITIONAL WAYS FOR MY FAMILY TO SAVE MONEY AS WELL AS MONITOR MONTHLY ENERGY COSTS.

After checking out www.FPL.com/EasytoSave I saw that I could take a FREE Online Home Energy Survey and receive a FREE Personalized Energy-Savings Plan along with seeing where my bill was for the month by downloading the new, FREE FPL Mobile App.

WITH THE FPL MOBILE APP, I CAN ALSO REPORT OUTAGES, MAKE PAYMENTS, AND MAKE CHANGES TO MY ACCOUNT.

In addition, after completing the Online Home Energy Survey I was provided tips as well as a Bill Breakdown Chart. Listed below are some of the suggested Ways To Start Saving Money on Your Energy Bill!

CHECK THE THERMOSTAT:

Could you maybe set that temperature for your A/C a couple degrees higher? Example: Based on my survey, I could save up to $53 each year by cooling my home at 78 degrees (versus 76 degrees) with the thermostat fan switched on “auto.” For additional savings, raise the thermostat to 82 degrees or warmer when away from home.

Additionally, consider a smart thermostat which connects to a home’s Wi-Fi and can be controlled from a smart device. They are designed to help families control energy usage remotely, which will ultimately save money.

INSPECT THE SHOWERHEAD:

Did you know that showers are typically the largest use of hot water? If you are looking for a way to save, check to see if your existing shower head can fill a gallon jug in less than 24 seconds. If so, consider replacing it with a water-conserving showerhead which will also help you save money from reduced water heater usage.

MONITOR LAUNDRY SETTINGS:

Fun fact! 90% of the energy used to wash clothes is from heating the water. A simple way to reduce this is through using cold water whenever possible. Plus, proper vent cleaning will help your dryer run more effectively and dry clothing in optimal time.

LET THE DISHWASHER DO THE WORK:

It is definitely better to run your dishwasher instead of hand washing since it uses 1/3 less water. To be more efficient, wash only full loads, and use no-heat drying. If your machine has an energy-saving cycle, use it to shorten the run time and conserve water.

SET THE WATER HEATER FOR SAVINGS:

Not only is this is an energy saver, but it is also a safety precaution. Set your water heater at the safe and energy-saving temperature of 120 degrees. It also is a great idea to turn off your water heater when you will be away for a few days or longer.

…AND WHILE YOU ARE AT IT, BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE FREE FPL MOBILE APP TO MONITOR YOUR MONTHLY ENERGY COSTS AND TO MANAGE YOUR ACCOUNT.

These tips provided to me as a FPL customer were just a preview of their recommendations, and to receive a complete list be sure to visit www.FPL.com/EasytoSave.

We set our thermostat at one temperature and never change it. I've noticed our bills have been lower since we quit changing it up or down.

We have an app that controls our lights and other devices that are plugged in at our house. If we forget them on, we can turn them off from anywhere so that we're not wasting energy while we're not home.

We only use Heating and AC when it is necessary. Quite often just opening the windows to let the air flow is ideal.
