Moms' Tips To Soothe A Sore Throat

I have to say that when it comes to illnesses and my children, the worst part is knowing that they might be suffering. As a mother of 3,  I want to get them back to school and to their happy selves as soon as possible.

Of course certain bacteria or even viruses are pretty straight forward with symptoms like a cold, fever, vomiting or even diarrhea and this immediately signals an automatic visit to the MD. However sometimes I may hear a cough, sneeze, or even a complaint of a sore throat that may or may not be cause for alarm.

Treatment may be as simple as calling the Doctor and explaining the symptoms, getting a recommendation to observe and give an OTC medication, or simply turning on the humidifier. As for a sore throat, many diseases start with this and the first approach is to take a look. This is where the SayAhh! Sore Throat Home Exam Aid comes in handy.

Created by a physician and endorsed by pediatricians, this aid for children 6 years and up was made to help parents observe a child’s throat and report observations to the doctor or other healthcare provider. It was designed to minimize gag reflex, improve patient comfort, encourage tongue relaxation, and increase control for better visibility.

SayAhh! Application

The SayAhh! Sore Throat Home Exam Aid system includes The SayAhh! oral retractor and flashlight with a medical-grade illustrated chart. The kit’s suggested retail price is $9.49.

My daughter volunteered to let me try out the product, and through our experience I found the best success by allowing her to place the retractor where she felt most comfortable. When I tried to place it she gagged, but when she positioned it I was able to take a look, shine the flashlight, and see into the back of her mouth.

Looking for Tips To Soothe A Sore Throat? Check out these ideas from myself and other awesome Moms I know (My Mom and Mother-In-Law):

-Keep honey and lemon on hand to add to decaffeinated herbal teas. These beverages definitely help and if your child prefers, warm up apple or pear juice.

-Fill medicine cabinets with Over the Counter products like cough suppressants/expectorants, fever reducers, and allergy treatments. Be sure to carefully read the dosing and age restrictions.

-Have your child gargle with warm salt water and also add a little lemon to the mixture.

-Popsicles or lollipops can help soothe sore throats, plus the kiddos enjoy them.

-A humidifier is a great tool to help with general stuffiness and drainage, and will help keep them more comfortable.

-While they are awake and can be monitored, wrap a warm scarf or towel around their neck. The heat is comforting.
