Do You Compost? How, In What, and Where?

With Earth Day approaching on Sunday and taking the quizzes on Recyclebank , it got me thinking about starting up a compost pile again.  (I’m sure my husband will cringe as he reads this.) I read about a family via Recyclebank  who basically has 1 bag of trash a year.  Now granted, I am not going to go to that type of extreme, but I have already tried to recycle more items thanks to the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler and I am trying to use up foods before they spoil.

At my previous home, I had an old metal trash can in the back that I threw yard waste, papers, and some food waste like veggies, fruit, and egg shells, but unfortunately it never took off. It ended up attracting ants and the rats that lived up in our fruit trees. (Again, my husband was thrilled.)

I really want to start a boxed garden next spring, because I think the kiddos would enjoy it, and since I am frugal, having my own garden and making my own fertilizer would be ideal to save on the costs. So if I am going to do it this time, I want to do it right.

I have been looking at Amazon at various styles (I have a gift card and included some of the pictures) but I am clueless on what I should invest in. We are a family of four, so I’m not sure if I should buy a spinning unit or put a pail in the garage and dump into a plain container, I definitely  need some advice.  However, my top concern is that it is easy, not messy, and keeps away the critters.

So, Do You Compost? How, In What, and Where? I would love it if you would share some ideas from your own experience by leaving a comment below.

I definitely want to try to be a better steward of the Earth, so I appreciate your help!
