If you are not familiar with Mother Goose Club, it is a series of 1-minute educational programs for preschoolers promoting early literacy. It airs on PBS and is recommended for children ages 2 and up. The series has six characters including: Teddy Bear, Jack B. Nimble, Little Bo Peep, Baa Baa Sheep, Mary Quite Contrary, and Eep Mouse.
The show uses nursery rhymes to teach children about rhyming words, counting, and encourages the kids to get up and moving. It is a great building block to get children interested in reading. This package couldn’t have come at a better time because my son was already complaining about being bored this summer. I put the Nursery Rhyme Singing Time with Mother Goose Club DVD on to play and my kids were instantly hooked. The DVD is 40 minutes and contains music, short skits, and long skits.
We took the DVD with us on vacation and played it in the car and in the hotel room. They really enjoyed it and I found myself singing along as well. I think it is great DVD because it instantly rekindled an interest in Nursery Rhymes for my son. He went a looked for one of his nursery rhyme books so we could read it together.
As for my daughter, she has been singing the various songs and has enjoyed coloring in the Nursery Rhyme Coloring Time Book. In the picture above, she was listening to one of the CDs, coloring, and singing along as well.
