A special thank you goes out to Disney for providing me with travel, accommodations, and this exclusive interview with George Clooney. Opinions expressed are that of my own.
Just when you thought all the awesome details about our Exclusive George Clooney Interview had been delivered, here is a second installment with more FUNNY moments and TOMORROWLAND details!
Since there were a few spoilers in our interview, it was decided to push out this part of the conversation until after the film was released. Check out what George had to say below!
Thank you to Louise Bishop of MomStart.com for providing the exclusive interview photos of George Clooney.
One of the additional questions we asked during our interview was, What was it like working with such young and talented actors?
George complimented them both, “Britt is fantastic and her career is just at the very beginning and is going to be really fun. Raffey is spectacular and way too talented for her age… it was a fun part for me because if you’d seen me speaking to a 12 year old the way I speak to her at the grocery store, you’d call child services. In the movie it’s so much fun because she’s not really a 12 year old. They sort of set up a way where we’re a little family of three, but she’s the adult driving the car and Britt and I are the two kids arguing and bickering all the time.”
He then went on to say, “I think they were having a really fun time with this, which is how it’s supposed to be. When I work with younger actors, I always have to try to remind them that this is the fun kind of job that most people don’t get to do. If you get to be an actor and work and somebody pays you for it, you’ve caught the brass ring…”
Next we inquired, What was your favorite scene or favorite fun memory while filming Tomorrowland?
George told us, “I will tell you there were a lot of fun moments, because it wasn’t all done to green screen. They were nice enough to build these sets where you actually got to play in them. The most fun we had was the driving sequences believe it or not we’re being towed but Raffey is driving. I keep having to teach her that you got to keep looking at the road. She would be like,”What is the deal?”… There was no technology, it was just old fashioned three people sitting in a truck for five days, arguing and doing fun stuff. That’s really fun for actors because you don’t have to do any make believe. It’s all just right there.”
He continued, “I also really enjoyed shoving all the packs of powder down Britt’s throat. We must have done 30 takes, and every time I’d go, “Here you go” and she would say “Not the whole pack.” (See what Britt has to say about it during her interview Britt Robertson Recalls What It Was Like Being A Hero In TOMORROWLAND!)
Of course we just had to know, Did Britt really drink all those bottles of Coke?
He explained, “Now in fairness, Brad was kind enough to only do it, I think three times, but she does down two cokes in the take. I was just sitting there thinking, you know she’s gonna explode.”
George then recalled, “I remember when I was doing Descendants and we had this little girl who played my youngest daughter in the film. We did a scene where she gets to eat ice cream, and since she never acted in a movie before, she just starts pounding the table. I’m just sitting there watching her going, you can see her at take 9 and she literally was like uuugh.”
We then asked, Where there any scenes that were emotionally hard for you to film?
He shared,”Emotionally hard, no. I find movies in general aren’t emotional, you’re involved in them but something honestly terrible has not happened, it is still make believe.”
George did mention, “I did find that there was a tricky scene, where I have to let Raffey’s character, the robot go. We’d shot it once and she kind of clicks out, but her eyes are open still and we drop her out. It literally feels like I’m murdering her, it was odd. And you’re watching it, it’s so disturbing and it was really awful. We went back and re-did it, where she sort of completely goes out. There’s all kinds of weird balances in this film…Thankfully Brad is Brad (Brad Bird) and is really good at what he does. He made it much simpler.”
