Summer Craft Idea, Miracle-Gro Kids My First Garden Kit!

disclosure-for-site

July 8, 2018 Carlee at Fun Learning Life 100 Comments

A special thank you goes out to the Horizon Group USA for sending my family a Miracle-Gro Kids My First Garden kit to review. Opinions expressed are that of my own.

Wanting to keep the kiddos busy this summer as well as teach them about the basics of growing your own food?

Well I am happy to say that I did that very thing with my daughter when we set up the Miracle-Gro Kids My First Garden.

Now before I get started with the product details, I first wanted to say that this is really 2 activities in one.

From a value standpoint, I think this garden kit is great because you decorate the container and wooden garden markers, but then you also set up the kit to grow herbs and vegetables.

From an entertainment standpoint this garden is awesome since I got 2 days of activities, and each day after we have been watering and checking in on her plants.

The Miracle-Gro Kids My First Garden kit comes with detailed directions, seeds, wooden garden markers, a plastic tray planter tin planter, coconut fiber pucks, paint, and paint brush.

The only item it did not come with was rocks, but it did recommend to add those to the bottom to help with drainage.

According to the packaging, you should expect to see growth from 5 to 14 days with plants maturing in 3 to 4 weeks.

After the 5th day, we started to see the basil seedlings popping out of the soil and by the 7th day the bean sprouts made their appearance. After 18 days we had plants growing in all 3 sections, and as you can tell she is really proud of her garden. (see the photo below)

Have you ever successfully grown a garden at home with your kids? What kind of plants did you grow?

Not only is this gardening activity great for summer, but it would also make an excellent birthday or holiday gift. As you can tell, this Miracle-Gro Kids My First Garden is a neat item for families to work on together and observe.
