Simple Service Ideas and Printable Compliment Notes!

disclosure-for-site

February 22, 2018 Carlee at Fun Learning Life 23 Comments

Thanks to Lionsgate I was sent a copy of the film WONDER to review and opinions expressed in this post are those of my own. I hope you find our Simple Service Ideas and Printable Compliment Notes inspiring.

Recently we had the pleasure of watching the movie WONDER which is now out on Blu-RAY, DVD, and Digital, and it really had a profound effect on my family.

I will tell you that tears were shed many times while we (children, mother in law, and myself) watched this film. My almost 12 year old was moved to emotions and he told me that he thought children his age should see WONDER because it addresses topics like not judging others based on appearances, being the new kid at school, and bullying. He and his 9 year old sister both agreed that there is so much to learn from this production.

After seeing this film, I have been inspired to encourage others to watch it as well as wanting to do something to help spread the initiative of #ChooseKind through simple service ideas.

Since we are in the midst of LENT, my children have been looking for ways to give to others during this time of reflection and I have been researching and brainstorming simple service ideas for them to work on.

Their school made part of this easy through a group wide collection for CRSRiceBowl.org, but I also wanted them to personally get out and see how even the smallest action can make a positive difference. So after some thought, here are a few simple service ideas that are ideal for families with kids as well as a link to Printable Compliment Notes!

Donate food to a local collection agency-

This is as simple as going into your pantry or taking advantage of a sale at the grocery store and donating to an organization like Feeding America. We usually do this around the holidays by donating to our church’s food pantry, but of course there is a need year round. Check out our throw back photo from 2012!

Help a neighbor around the house-

Do you have a neighbor who is home bound or struggles with movement? Why not visit with them and ask if you can help out with housework tasks. Ideas would include weeding in the yard or heading inside to dust or vacuum. We have a neighbor who recently hurt her hip and have already been asking how we can volunteer our services. I suspect that my children will also be doing chores at their Grandma’s house.

Leave compliment notes to uplift friends and neighbors-

Spreading happiness can make a difference in person life whether doing so in person or leaving words of kindness. It is as easy to use a card or a sticky note, but you can also visit Printable Compliment Notes to print the following set I created. We will be leaving them in random spots to make someones day, and I will be encouraging my kiddos to do so anonymously.

Choose toys to give to the Salvation Army or other nonprofit-

Since we just came away from the winter holidays, this is a perfect time of year for our family to purge and evaluate what the kiddos have. It is a great way to learn how to let material things go as well as knowing that they are making a child happy.

Donate clothing to a local non profit group or pass them on to another family-

As the season transitions to spring, I am certain my kiddos will have clothes they have outgrown from the previous year. We normally hand them down to friends and family, but anything that does not get used goes to a Thrift that provides financial assistance to those going to nursing school.

What other simple service ideas have you completed or what ideas do you have for families with young children to help them #ChooseKind?

About the film WONDER:

WONDER follows the inspiring story of the Pullman family, whose youngest child, Auggie, is a boy born with facial differences. When Auggie enters mainstream elementary school for the first time, his extraordinary journey unites his family, his school, and his community, and proves that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

The WONDER home entertainment release includes all-new special features, including a never-before-seen 5-part documentary, multiple featurettes, a music video, and an audio commentary with Stephen Chbosky and R.J. Palacio. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray also features Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR), growing Lionsgate’s library of titles featuring both Dolby Vision and Dolby TrueHD. Dolby Vision transforms the TV experience in the home by delivering greater brightness and contrast, as well as a fuller palette of rich colors.

The 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray versions feature Dolby TrueHD, which provides the most authentic lossless audio experience available for the home theater. Together Dolby Vision and Dolby TrueHD allow consumers to experience both cutting-edge imaging and lossless audio sound technology for an immersive entertainment experience.

WONDER will be available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD for the suggested retail price of $42.99, $39.99, and $29.95, respectively.

I teach children to choose kind by taking them to do community service. Taking them to do community service shows them how to apprecaite what you have and be kind to others.
