Vacationing in St. Augustine Florida!

A special thank you goes out to St. Augustine Florida for hosting my husband and I at select locations and attractions in the area.

Destinations for Couples in St. Augustine

My husband and I recently had a couples getaway to St. Augustine Florida, and we had such a relaxing and entertaining visit. It had actually been years since we had gone off alone without the kiddos, and ironically our last “alone” trip was to the same place.

We really like this area because it takes about 4-5 hours to drive from our home, and we generally take the Florida back roads for a very scenic route. In addition, we have stayed at the World Golf Resort nearby which provides a quiet place to relax and it is also equipped with a onsite pool, restaurant, and IMAX theater.

Are you planning on taking a trip and Vacationing in St. Augustine Florida?  Here are 5 of the attractions we visited that my husband and I think would be perfect for couples!

1. St. Augustine Light House – Be ready for a walk, because in order to make it up to the top you have to climb 219 steps.  However, it is worth it to see the beautiful views of the beach and inland.

We made it to the top! #staugustinelighthouse #funlearninglife #StAugustine #hosted #instatravel #travelgram #travelblogger #travel #romantic #wonderlust #wanderlust #beautiful #beautifulplace #selfie #Florida #LoveFl #vacation #vacay #lighthouse @floridashistoriccoast @funlearningdad

This is also a great spot to grab a couples photo (which is exactly what hubby and I did) or to record a video at 360 degrees, plus the photo of the stairs is quite beautiful.

Be sure to check out the website before you visit for height requirements, ticket prices, as well as a history on this area attraction.

2. Potter’s Wax Museum – Are you a history buff, or a fan of pop culture? Either way Potter’s Wax Museum has a little bit of something for everyone.

There are presidents, kings and queens, as well icons of music and television.

In addition, if you like Star Wars they have an exhibit with popular characters. There is also a section for horror films as well as figures from Florida’s past.

The most interesting part for me was finding out all the unique, interesting, and not so glamorous ways many of these individuals became deceased. I kept my pictures to a minimum as to not spoil all the surprises.

3. San Sebastian Winery – If you are a lover of Wine or simply want to learn more, this spot off of Kings Street in St. Augustine is a great place to get started and they offer a Free Wine Tasting.

No appointment is necessary, and they host tours and tastings every 20-25 minutes. Just make sure you head in before they close up.

San Sebastian Winery St Augustine Barrels

This experience not only shows an informative video about the owners and the vineyard, but it also provides a tour of the upstairs tasting room, and barrels in the storage area. Plus, our guide was pretty entertaining.

The best part of course is tasting their signature products from sweet to dry along with food recommendations for each.

When you are finished you can then shop, or head up to the roof on Friday through Sunday to listen to a band, have a few more beverages, and grab something to eat.

Be sure to have your ID handy, and check out the website for the upcoming entertainment schedule.

4. Whetstones Chocolates – When you are finished Wine Tasting, you can head down the street for a Factory Tour at the Whetstones Chocolates 139 King Street location.

There you can taste test an assortment of chocolates as well as see how chocolate is created. There is a video about the history of chocolate and attendees are required to wear hair nets on their tour.

All of the prep is totally worth it though, the chocolate is AMAZING. Plus it really is an interesting experience.

FYI, you do need to sign up for this tour and they vary on the weekend. Definitely check the hours and reservations are highly recommended. This is a great value at only $8.00 Per Adult.

5. Castillo de San Marcos – Visiting the St. Augustine Fort is truly a tradition for my husband and me. It is such a beautiful location surrounded by the old city and the water.

Each time I visit it seems as though I see something new, and there are updated exhibits as well as restorations on-going.

We even got an opportunity to visit at night time as part of a Ghost tour with Ripley’s. Pretty creepy, but just as gorgeous. See other great photos from our previous visit Trip To Castillo de San Marcos St. Augustine.

When we finished our visit to the Castillo, we took a stroll over to the old city of St. Augustine.  This is definitely a centrally located spot to explore. FYI, if you are looking for places to park be sure to visit the St. Augustine & St. Johns County Visitor Information Center and Parking Garage.

My parents live in Florida, so it would be nice to leave our son with them to watch while my husband and I head to St. Augustine for a relaxing weekend. The beautiful views and the chocolate is calling my name!

We love St. Augustine and have visited almost every place on your list! I agree that they are all great picks. My kids were fascinated by the wax museum.

Sounds like a wonderful trip & I am sure you both had a great time out there. I would love to check out that Light House for sure & it is going to be so much fun climbing those 200+ steps. The Museum looks amazing too & I might need more time to spend in that chocolate factory!!
