This summer I made the kiddos a Smoothie with Cherries for a snack and it was amazing! This was all inspired by the fact that my oldest has been getting up early and making himself breakfast.
I would say 3 to 5 days of the week he has been making smoothies with frozen fruit, fresh banana and peanut butter before football practices.

I am extremely proud of his commitment to eating healthy while trying to consume more calories to help build muscle. Needless to say, when I had the opportunity to mix up the smoothie ingredients for him, I did so with Cherries.
First I needed to prep the cherries, so I washed, pitted and placed one cup into a freezer bag to be frozen for future prep.

Did you know that one cup of Cherries are less than 90 calories and are high in antioxidants? This would also be awesome for an after workout meal, and I made about a week’s worth to give him some variety.
Cherry Smoothie Recipe
1 Frozen Cup of Pitted Cherries
1 Banana
1 Cup of Ice
1/2 Cup of Vanilla Almond Milk
1/2 Cup of Low Fat Vanilla Yogurt
2 Tbsps of Peanut Butter

Directions:
Blend all the ingredients together and either us as an individual serving or split as a snack. Either way you should enjoy the Cherry Smoothie Recipe immediately.
I happen to give this batch to my 3 kids as a snack but it is plenty for a meal. Feel free to also substitute in your favorite type of milk in the place of almond.

This smoothie is delicious and whenever I get an opportunity, I will be making a Cherry Smoothie Recipe for myself. It is SO GOOD!
I am also going to try this Cherry Smoothie Recipe out as a freezer pop recipe, I think the kids would love it and it would also be great for an after school snack.
