A special thank you goes out to Paramount for sending my family a Dora and the Lost City of Gold Blu-ray and Adventure Kit and providing press information. Opinions expressed are that of my own and the Banana Pudding Pies were delicious!
My kiddos have grown out of Dora the Explorer, however when you put her into a live action film their interest automatically gets a reboot.

Talk about nostalgia, as a parent all those many mornings spent watching with my preschooler suddenly washed back over me again when I saw this movie advertised.
However, I have to say that Dora and the Lost City of Gold is definitely made for the entire family and was a welcomed spin on the original Nickelodeon Cartoon. It even inspired easy Banana Pudding Pies.

Now as to not give to many aspects of the story away, this film is not meant for educational purposes but strictly for laughter and adventure.
Anything parents of small children should be aware of? Just a couple references to mating animals (went over my kiddos heads) and you can see a cartoon characters exposed bottom in one of the scenes.

As for my family’s reaction to the movie, my 10 year old daughter loved the references to the original series and thought it was cool when they actually showed them as cartoons.
Plus, my 7 year old son enjoyed seeing Boots the Monkey and Swiper the Fox.

About Dora and the Lost City of Gold!
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School.

Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, a mysterious jungle inhabitant, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold stars Isabela Moner, Eugenio Derbez, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, and Danny Trejo.

Not only did my kids enjoy the film, but they were ready to explore with the cool Dora and the Lost City of Gold merchandise we received that included an HQ4Kids – 7 Piece Outdoor Adventure Kit for Kids!
My youngest son immediately called dibs on the binoculars, the crank flashlight, and the whistle. He started magnifying all sorts of items around our yard.

My daughter was all about the Purple Backpack, compass, and the very cool Maglite. FYI, that Maglite flashlight comes in a small package but it sure is mighty and would be perfect to have on hand for camping.
For a limited time you can SAVE an extra 20% at Maglite by using the code MAGDORA.

To continue the fun after the film, I also made the kids a Banana Pudding Pies Recipe inspired by Boots. You know he loves red and bananas! If you want to recreate the recipe, this is what you will need.
Banana
Vanilla Pudding 3.4oz Package
2 Cups of Milk
Large Mariscino Cherries
Pack of 6 Prepared Graham Mini Pie Tins

Directions:
Prepare the Vanilla Pudding according to the packaging with 2 cups of milk.
Slice the banana into 18 pieces and place 3 in each pie.

Next, pour the pudding over the top of the pie shells completely covering the bananas. Use the knife to smooth this out.
Tip: Wipe the cherries off with a paper towel first to avoid having syrup run all over the top of the pie.

To finish, place a cherry on top of each and refrigerate until completely set.
These Banana Pudding Pies are an easy recipe to make and are already portioned out for the kiddos. I think Boots the Monkey would approve!
