If you are planning on making Rice Krispies Treats, this is something easy to mix up the usual appearance of the dessert, and it is fun for the kids. All you need in addition to the regular ingredients is food coloring and parchment paper.
I used the following directions for preparation, Original Rice Krispies Treats however I divided the recipe up into 3 parts and used 1/3 of the ingredients for each of the colors of the flower.
FYI, both kids helped me prepare the treats but I carefully monitored this since the stove and pot are hot. I handled the food coloring and the forming of the shapes.
Tip: I put around 7 drops of the food coloring into the marshmallow mix before I added in the Rice Krispies. Red made pink, green made green, etc. You can add more to get your desired color.
To make the shapes, I simply formed each part while it was still warm with the parchment paper. The center first, peddles next, and then the stem and the grass. I used the same medal cooking pot for all, and did not worry about the little bit of color left mixing into the next batch.
Tip: I put mine to set on Aluminum Foil. In the future, I will put it on the Parchment Paper so it will peel off easier.
This activity was easy and delicious. The kids thought it was awesome.
What do you use Rice Krispies Treats to create?
If you try it out, let me know how it goes. 🙂
