It is extremely important that my children start out their days right. Whether they are at school learning, working on a craft at home, or spending time with friends during a play-date, I want them to be happy, full of energy, and ready to engage the day.
Thanks to Silk Fruit & Protein and Socialmoms, Mom Bloggers like myself were asked to share “Shake Up Your Wake Up” Morning Routine Tips. I thought this would be a great opportunity to share 5 Ways To Make Waking Up Great For Your Children!
First, allow children time to wake-up. This gives them a few minutes to get moving around. Waking them up at the very last-minute makes everyone feel rushed and starts the day off on a bad note. Plus, they could miss out on a balanced breakfast, and they need this to fuel their day. Personally, if I ever feel short on time, I have my kids get dressed before they come to the breakfast table.
Second, discuss the fun things they will be doing during the day. This way, you know what is going on, and the kids get excited. FYI, I try not to discuss hot topics first thing in the morning. Unless it is a matter of safety, most big discussions can wait till later in the day or after school. There is no reason to send children to school upset, this could lead to misbehavior.
Third, get up a little early to prepare the kid’s breakfast. I’m not saying you have to make a huge breakfast, but a little effort lets them know you care. I tell my kids things like, “I got your favorite cereal or favorite breakfast bar”. I actually bought some Silk Fruit & Protein this week, and my kids were excited to try it out. I put this in the place of Milk or OJ and I told them it was especially for them, along with waffles I made from scratch.
Fourth, take the time to sit with them while they eat breakfast. I am terrible at this in the morning, but I want to get better at it. There is something special about a family eating together. This can also be the time that parents can discuss the events that will be occurring during the day.
Finally, take a moment to tell your children that you love them, and send them off with well wishes for the day. If your kids will let you, give them a hug or kiss before they go into school. I say, “I hope you have a great day!” and try to grab mine for a hug and a kiss before we leave the house.
My kids liked Silk Fruit & Protein, so we will be adding it in as one of the drinks we serve at breakfast.
