The following is a sponsored post on behalf of Ferdinand and The Kindness Rocks Project. Opinions expressed are those of my own.
The sweet tale of Ferdinand is something I remember being told as a child, and this past week my family watched the NEW Movie now out on Digital.
Of course we learn that this special BULL has a love for flowers and peace, but in this story he also shows how individuals can choose their path and make changes for the better.
I was happy to have an opportunity to share with my family the sweet moments and positive messages featured in the film as well as spread happiness in my community through The Kindness Rocks Project.
This initiative through Random Acts of Kindness shows that “One message at just the right moment can change someone’s entire day, outlook, life!”.
Ferdinand does this throughout the film with his friends, family, and even a Matador, and to see how we created our Kindness Rocks details are below!
What You Will Need To Get Started With Kindness Rocks:
Beach Pebbles or River Rocks
Wide Mouth Cups
Non Toxic Acrylic Paints in bright colors
Magic Markers
Paint Brushes (Small and Large)
Non Toxic Mod Podge (acrylic spray works as well)
Plastic table cloth or newspaper
Directions:
To get started, first wash off the rocks and allow them to dry. I laid them on paper towels to absorb any water.
Then, create a space for your family to work on the rocks. I suggest using either a plastic table cloth or newspaper and have your family wear aprons.
Next up, use the plastic cups to squeeze out a small amount of acrylic paint to use on the rocks.
I bought large mouth cups to make it easier to get the paint out, plus we only used what we needed and kept the colors separated.
Then, the kiddos choose their paint brushes (we used the small ones), a few rocks, as well as paint colors.
Tip: Paint one side of the rock and allow it to dry (It does dry quickly) and then flip it over and paint the other side. This way it is less messy and helps keep it from sticking to surfaces.
Once the rocks are completely dry, it is time to draw pretty pictures or write special messages on the rocks.
We wrote sayings like “LOVE”, “HAPPY” or in the words of Ferdinand, “BULL-IEVE IN YOURSELF”.
Once the rocks set over night, they can then be painted with the Mod Podge or sprayed with a sealant to preserve the color.
I used the larger brushes to do this, and again I suggest putting it on one side first, let it dry, and then put it on the other side.
After our Kindness Rocks were complete, my family set out to spread these positive messages around our local area.
We ended up leaving them at 2 parks in beds and up in trees.
We had a great time sharing these special sayings and the kiddos also put our Ferdinand Message in a neighbor’s flower bed.
She actually came to me the next day to tell me how much she appreciate it, and that she was taking it inside to preserve it.
About Ferdinand:
From the creators of Ice Age and Rio comes the most love-a-bull family comedy of the year! Ferdinand (John Cena) is a giant bull with a big heart.
After being mistaken for a dangerous beast and torn from his home, he rallies a misfit team of friends for the ultimate adventure to return to his family.
