IN A WORLD FULL OF TECHNOLOGY, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO GET MY CHILDREN ENGAGED IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE.
I hope to encourage good habits while they are young to help them prevent issues like obesity or attempt to avoid conditions like diabetes and heart disease. Healthychildren.org recommends, “Your goal should be to do some type of exercise every day. It is best to do some kind of aerobic activity without stopping for at least 20 to 30 minutes each time.”
ARE YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH HABITS A CONCERN AND WANTING TO DISCUSS AN ACTION PLAN WITH A PHYSICIAN? FLORIDA KIDCARE OFFERS PREVENTIVE CARE, INCLUDING HEALTH AND DENTAL COVERAGE.
All three of my kiddos have been involved in sports this year and my daughter is participating in tumbling, however when we are at home I want to make sure that they are continuing to remain active.
Normally in the summer the kids would be getting in the pool or playing in the sprinkler, but now that it is getting cooler it is time to switch gears and look for other ideas. The positives are the kiddos get to burn off energy, have fun, and it should cost little to none for parents to set this up.
Wanting to Find Ways to Get Kids Active to Promote A Healthy Lifestyle? Check out my ideas below.
HOUSE OR YARD WORK –
Vacuuming or dusting, or simply pulling weeds, depending upon your child’s age and ability, they should be able to help maintain where a family lives. It is a great way to exercise, teach responsibility, plus families can spend time together working towards a common goal.
SETTING UP OBSTACLE COURSES –
Using empty containers or boxes, it is easy to arrange an obstacle course around your home for kids to conquer. Whether navigating a soccer ball through it, crawling under a broom stick, or jumping over a crack in the cement, it is simple to get these athletes aka ninjas in action.
PLAYING SPORTS –
Our kids’ school offers low cost sports team options, however if this doesn’t work with a schedule or budget, it is just as easy to play ball in the front or back yard.
WALKS OR BIKE RIDING AS A FAMILY-
This can be in your neighborhood or simply finding a local park or a family friendly area to take a stroll, either way it is probably one of the easiest things to arrange. If it is raining outside, parents and kiddos can head to a local mall to exercise together.
YARDS GAMES –
We happen to have a cornhole toss set I picked up over the summer, and the kids as well as adults enjoy playing together. In addition, it is just as easy to make your own Carnival Style games. Check out my post DIY Yard Games Made From Plastic Bottles for more details.
