A special thank you goes out to Pfizer Consumer Healthcare for providing my family with OTC medications, product details, as well as sponsoring this post. Opinions expressed in Reminders During Cold and Flu Season For My Kids! are that of my own.
It is that time of year where the germs are floating around and although we try our best to help kiddos avoid them, sometimes the best of precautions just don’t work.
Thankfully when sick gets real, the pediatric brands of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare are there with three solutions – Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin® and Children’s Dimetapp® – to tackle the symptoms.
Now this doesn’t mean that I still can’t try to keep them away from illness, and here are “Reminders During Cold and Flu Season For My Kids!”
1. Keep hands away from your Mouth and Nose
As an adult I have to remember to keep my hands off of my own face, so I can only imagine how difficult it is for my ever in motion kiddos. Especially when germs are rampant, I don’t want them getting sick from touching surfaces. When my daughter sucked her thumb, she was always picking up some type of illness. (sigh)
2. Use the Triangle for Coughs and Sneezes
Just as it is important to avoid picking up germs, I don’t want my children to be the ones responsible for spreading them. I encourage them to aim for the the center of their bent arm aka the triangle, of course if a tissue is handy that is the optimal place to put the coughs and sneezes. FYI, I know my kids and it is likely they will be asking for a tissue only after their nose is running.
3. Get To Bed on Time
Proper rest is a top reason to get to bed on time. If they get run down, it can make their immune system more likely to give way to being sick. Thankfully my 5 year old still takes naps, because this Mom needs reminders during cold and flu season as well.
4. Wash your hands
I personally need to get better at this, since it is usually chaotic when we are getting ready to eat. I am lucky to get them all to the table at the same time and even luckier if they don’t try to get up multiple times. However, they need to wash those hands before they dine and I hope they are doing it before snack and/or lunch at school. I know that my preschooler does this before his snack, can I just pretend that the other 2 are doing this too?
5. Tell Mom and Dad when you start to feel sick
This way I know whether or not it is time for medicine, a day from school, or a trip to the pediatrician. My little guy woke me up at 1 am and 4:30 am ready to vomit about 2 weeks ago, and I immediately went into action. Needless to say he got a day of snuggling, TV watching, and GOFISH from Mom.
Of course, kids may try to rally because there is something fun going on at school or dislike missing another day, but sometimes they just need a sick day to regain their energy and to not spread the bug to anyone else.
Have a child that is being affected by Cold and Flu Season, and want to make them more comfortable?
Ease those aches and pains, while reducing a child’s fever fast with Children’s Advil® Suspension*, a great solution for kids as young as 2 and up to 11. Children’s Advil® comes in several great-tasting flavors, including: Sugar-free Dye-free Berry, Bubble Gum, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit and Dye-Free White Grape flavors.
Formulated just for kids, Children’s Robitussin® DM Day/Night Pack (Children’s Robitussin® Cough & Chest Congestion for ages 4+ and Children’s Robitussin® Nighttime Cough Long-Acting for ages 6+)** non-drowsy daytime formula helps break up chest congestion, while the long-acting nighttime formula relieves coughs and runny noses to help kids get the rest they need.
All in a great tasting grape flavor, Children’s Dimetapp® Cold & Cough for ages 6+ tackles a child’s most bothersome stuffy and runny noses, all while working to relieve cough.
