Not only have I been spring cleaning my office and kiddos craft supplies, but I also decided it was time to tackle the medicine cabinet.
A special thank you goes out to Pfizer Consumer Healthcare for providing my family with OTC medications, product details, as well as sponsoring this post. Opinions expressed in Tips For Spring Cleaning A Medicine Cabinet are that of my own.
Apparently Sick Just Got Real, because this area had gotten away from me and really needed my attention.
I definitely needed to pull everything out to access what I had, so I could properly stock up for the rest of the Spring and Summer.
Are you also starting to tackle your own seasonal organization? After my experience, here are a few Tips For Spring Cleaning A Medicine Cabinet:
1. Check expiration dates on medications and remove the expired ones
For safety purposes, it is absolutely imperative not to use expired medication. I was surprised to find as many expired ones towards the back my cabinet as I did and really need to check this more often.
2. Properly dispose of prescriptions
It is important that prescription medications stay out of the hands of children as well as those they are not intended for. The FDA has a great resource at Disposal of Unused Medicines: What You Should Know to help guide consumers through this process. I used coffee grounds to discard mine, and I was also sure to remove any personal information off of the bottles.
3. Restock Bandages, ice packs, and topical ointments
Since warmer weather is here and we will be spending more time outside, it is a necessity to restock these items for my kiddo’s boo boos.
4. Check if thermometers or other medical devices are working
We needed to add new batteries to our digital thermometer (I let my 8 year old daughter do the honors and I also got a backup). I also want to confirm that our humifiers are still working properly for allergies and summer colds.
5. Arm yourself with OTC medications that are appropriate for your children
Just because it is warmer doesn’t mean that the symptoms caused by colds and viruses are eliminated. When sick gets real, the pediatric brands of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare are there with three solutions – Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin® and Children’s Dimetapp® – to tackle the ickiest of symptoms. *
· Ease those aches and pains, while reducing a child’s fever fast with Children’s Advil®, a great solution for kids as young as 2 and up to 11. Children’s Advil® comes in several great-tasting flavors, including: Sugar-free Dye-free Berry, Bubble Gum, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit and Dye-Free White Grape flavors.
· For your child’s cough, trust Children’s Robitussin® Extended-Release 12 Hour Cough Relief to control and relieve symptoms all-day or all- night. Available in grape or orange flavor, for children ages 4 and up. Please note, certain Children’s Robitussin® products are only suitable for children ages 6 and up.
· Children’s Dimetapp® Multi-Symptom Cold Relief Dye-Free eases your child’s stuffy and runny nose, while quieting a bothersome cough. All in a great-tasting grape flavor that’s dye-free, for children ages 6 and up.
