The following Foam Crown Craft and post is sponsored by the Cartoon Network’s My Knight and Me. Opinions expressed are that of my own.
Does your child use their imagination to play Princess or Knights?
If so, I have details on How To Make A Foam Crown Craft as well as a fun series for them to watch called My Knight and Me.
Now the reason we got inspired to create these fun headpieces was because we heard about a really awesome animated show on Cartoon Network. TeamTO’s My Knight and Me airs weekdays at 12pm (ET/PT) and is for kids ages 6-10.
The premise of the episodes is following the quests of 3 knights in shining armor (neither one of them displays your typical type of Medieval chivalry). Our heroes include the loyal, street-smart Jimmy the Squire, the daring and determined Cat the Princess, and the bold and courageous, as well as vocally talented Henri of Orange. Side note Henri happens to also be Jimmy’s dad.
Together, this unlikely trio (The Princess Knight and the Oranges) set out from the Kingdom of Epic to save the day and brighten the Dark Ages! They battle “not so scary” giants, a cyclops, witches, and a dragon, as well as overgrown rats trying to steal the royal cheese. Of course they have help via a modern twist, this includes magical smart phone AKA mirrors as well as working on their skills via knightly video games.
What really makes this series awesome for kids is how it breaks down the typical Middle Ages Roles. The Princess is not in distress, in fact she often times saves the day, the Knight Henri can make mistakes and needs saving of his own, and just because you are a little squire named Jimmy, doesn’t mean that you can’t come up with a BIG idea.
Of course these 3 Knights do their best when they work together, “Teamwork makes the Dream Work” and My Knight and Me emphasizes the importance of teamwork as well as using strategy over strength to solve problems. Want to make your family a crown to wear while they watch the series? Details are below!
How To Make A Foam Crown Craft!
What you will need:
2 Sheets of 8X12 Foam (any color will work)
Stapler
Gemstone or Pearl Stickers
Jewels and Gems
Glue
Ruler
Pencil
Optional: Quarter
Tip: You should be able to find most of these items at your local Dollar Tree or Craft Store.
Directions:
First lay your 2 pieces of foam on top of one other another. FYI, the original length of the foam was a little big for my 4 and 8 year old, so I cut off an inch.
It was the perfect size for my almost 11 year old. You may need to do a quick measurement of your child’s head to see if you need to cut off some of the foam.
Then take a ruler and trace inch lines across the center of the foam.
Then make these sections into open rectangles by tracing up over and then down in 1 inch measurements.
If you want a more decorative crown like my daughters, use the quarter to make heart shapes at the top of each section of the crown.
Once you cut this out, you will actually have a set of 2 crowns.
After both pieces of foam are cut, lay them on top of one another and staple both ends together. I used about 4-5 staples on each side.
Once finished, turn the crown inside out this will give it a seamless look.
To finish, hand the crown over to your kids to decorate. In about an hour, the glue should be dry and the crowns will be ready to wear.
I really like using the foam because it is flexible and soft, plus a Foam Crown Craft is SO EASY TO MAKE!
Now I will tell that that all 3 kids are asking to watch My Knight and Me all the time, they are entertained and this Mom doesn’t mind sitting alongside them to watch as well.
I am pretty certain that all of us have the theme song stuck in our heads.
To learn more about My Knight and Me head on over to Facebook at facebook.com/myknightandmeTV and tune into Cartoon Network weekdays at 12pm (ET/PT).
I hope you enjoy the show just as much as we do, and your family has fun making a Foam Crown Craft!
