One of the best ways to tell someone how great they are, is to give them a Gift from the Heart this Valentine’s Day. This year we will be making our special delivery with Homemade Double Chocolate Hearts, and Hallmark Signature Valentine’s Day Cards.
My kids have excellent teachers and because of this, I wanted to show them just how awesome they are. In order to do this, I first needed to take a trip up to our Walmart to pick out greeting cards, as well as get ingredients to make a decadent treat for Valentine’s Day.
Now to find the right way to express our gratitude, the kids and I checked out the Hallmark Signature Valentine’s Day Cards located in the Stationary Section. There we found beautiful textures and fabrics, with the look of hand crafted design. After exploring and reading the sayings inside, we found the perfect Snoopy and adorable Octopus to gift to their teachers.
Save $2 off a 2 card purchase (min $2 purchase required), expires 2/15, just look for the coupon at your nearest Walmart Hallmark Signature Valentine’s Day Cards Display.
Once we located our cards, it was then time to head to the seasonal area to find Valentine’s Boxes along with ingredients in the baking aisle and cinnamon candies in the sweets area. We were then ready to make our yummy creations. If you would like to recreate our Homemade Double Chocolate Hearts, details are below!
Homemade Double Chocolate Hearts
This yields 12 and you will need:
1 – 4 oz Package of White Baking Chocolate Bar
1 – 4 oz Package of Semi Sweet Baking Chocolate Bar
1 Package of Cinnamon Candies
Red Sprinkles
Silicone Heart Mold
Parchment Paper
Valentines Themed Boxes
Hallmark Signature Valentine’s Day Cards
FYI, I had bought a heart silicone mold at Walmart a few years back and I was excited to see they were selling them again this year.
Directions:
To get started, first place in a thin layer of red sprinkles in 6 of the hearts and then place 5-6 cinnamon candies into the other 6 hearts.
Then melt the white chocolate in a glass container in the microwave. I did this in 30 second increments, stirring each time as I removed the bowl from the microwave. This may take up to 3 times and it will be hot, so be sure to use pot holders.
Next up, pour a thin layer over the sprinkles and candy with a spoon and move to the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
While I waited for the chocolate to set, I began to cut out parchment paper the same shape and dimensions of my boxes.
Then it is time to repeat a layer with melted semi sweet chocolate. Again I used a glass container in the microwave, and did this in 30 second increments stirring each time I removed the bowl.
This may take up to 3 times and it will be hot, so be sure to use pot holders.
After the second layer of chocolate is placed on top, the Homemade Double Chocolate Hearts get moved to the refrigerator again for 30 minutes. To finish, pop them out and move to an air tight container with parchment paper. These should be stored in a cool area, until they are ready to be gifted.
Do you make homemade candy or chocolates? What other types of Valentine’s Gifts do you create?
