Moms and Dads, Grandparents, and other family members are our children’s biggest support and whether academic, arts, or athletic, we can help cheer our SUPERSTARS on and help them be successful in the upcoming year.
Now that the kids are heading back in school, we are learning about the new curriculum and expectations that the teachers have set forth for their students.
See how we put together a Sport’s Foam Finger Craft With Back To School Goal Setting to help transition into this new time of year.
Not only will school be back in session, but fall activities and sports are starting to get back into swing. Instructors or coaches will be laying out a game plan for the athletes and the skills they will be learning this season.
With all this new information being presented, I think it is important to ask our kids what is most important to them and to share their GOALS. This way parents know if they understand the expectations and also learn more about what their child is interested in.
To get started with a Sport’s Foam Finger Craft With Back To School Goal Setting you will need the following:
2 pieces of 12X18 inch 2 mm Foam
White sheet of paper
Twine
Hole punch
Ruler
Pencil
Crayons
Safety Scissors
Optional: Stickers to decorate
Tip: Most of these items can be found at your local craft or dollar store.
Directions:
First have your child tell you or write down what they would like to accomplish whether in school, arts, or sports. I recommend keeping it to 5 Goals or less.
You may also need to help them get started by discussing what they are learning in school or the skills they will work on in their activities.
My children are involved in Ballet and Football so we discussed those, as well as what they would be learning in school. My kiddos wrote down ideas like: Learning To Do A Split or Catching A Football One Handed.
Once they finished, they set their sheet aside. Then it was time to begin the Homemade Sport’s Foam Finger Craft.
To get started, first have your child lay their arm on a piece of foam. I picked up pink for my daughter, yellow/blue for my youngest, and brown for my oldest son.
Next trace with a dark crayon a shape big enough for their hand to fit into with a finger at the top. Layer the 2 pieces of foam together and cut along the traced line. The foam finger will be around 17 inches tall.
Then take a hole punch and make 16-18 holes along the outside of the foam. Cut 36 inches of twine and have your child weave it through the foam. To complete, tie off the ends.
Once the foam finger has taken shape, have your child write #1 FAN, AWESOME, or SUPER across the front, trace the fingers, or decorate with stickers (I found adhesive foam ones at Hobby Lobby).
To finish, fold their goal sheet into a thin strip and insert it into the top of the foam finger.
This serves as a reminder of what they want to accomplish, as well as support.
Your child can hang this foam finger craft up, can read the contents inside to cheer themselves on, or MOM and DAD can use it as a way to remind their kids that they are there to support them. Plus it is almost like a time capsule for the year.
I hope you find this Homemade Sport’s Foam Finger Craft activity fun for your family and have a great start to the new school year!
