Thanks to Drive Shop and Kia Motors America Inc., I was provided a 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo model to test drive and review for a week. Opinions expressed are that of my own (Vince – Fun Learning DAD) and to the best of my knowledge all vehicle information is correct.
3 words I would use to describe the 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo are DEPENDABLE, CONVENIENT, and SPORTY!
Redesigned for 2016 with new options but without increasing the price, this fully loaded model came with dual front and side airbags, Sirius Satellite radio, a built in navigation system, and a very cool panoramic sunroof.
During my week with the vehicle, I put the 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo to the test under city conditions by driving it mostly for work and family duty purposes.
Fuel efficiency was consistent with the combined city and highway MPG of 25, I began with a full tank of gas and still had less than a half-gallon when the test drive was over.
In regards to dependability, there were two unique safety features of the 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo that I found helpful while driving: Forward Collision and Lane Departure Warning Systems.
Since most of my driving was within the city, there were a few instances where someone would brake suddenly in front of me and I would get a warning to be able to adjust my driving.
In turn the lane departure system was useful in detecting other vehicles merging into my blind spot so I could make adjustments accordingly.
As with the warning systems another important safety feature of the 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo was the backup camera. It is located on the same screen as the navigation and radio and definitely came in handy when backing out of tight parking spaces or even out of the driveway.
I also liked the option to turn on the front camera to make parking easier in the driveway behind another vehicle. Additionally, I was impressed by the Traction Control System, Electronic Stability Management, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
In regards to convenience, I really appreciated the memory driver’s seat and outside mirror positions.
The navigation system was useful during my outings and the touchscreen display was very easy to use. The kids also enjoyed listening to their music on Disney Radio but sometimes they had to endure Dad constantly changing the station.
The 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo definitely has a sporty feel with leather seats, alloy pedals, RIMS, and a sleek exterior design. During my test drive I took advantage of the perfect summertime weather and opened up the panoramic sunroof. My wife caught a great photo of it on Instagram.

The car did fit my family of five, however I think it would be more appropriate as a second vehicle since there wasn’t much wiggle room.
It would be a fun ride to take to the beach in our area, or for shorter trips on the weekend.
