Have you ever been caught in traffic, stuck in your car due to the weather, or heard those lovely words from the back seat “Are we there yet?” or “I’m hungry!”? I’ve been there with 3 kids, and for the longest time I have been wanting to put a Travel Busy Box together to keep them occupied.
Now that summer time is well underway, I decided to put my plan into action and create 3 different containers for my kiddos as well as an adding an easy snacking solution inside.
To get started with each Travel Busy Box, I first paid a visit to the Back To School section at Walmart and found extra large pencil boxes (11 1/2 x 7 5/8). I also saw plenty of items on roll back, so I grabbed colored pencils, crayons, and mini notebooks.
As I walked over towards the book section, I came across a display with Twizzlers Twists and Twizzlers Pull N Peel low fat snacks. These would be awesome for their boxes since they don’t melt and are fun to eat. I picked up a Rainbow and a Strawberry flavor.
FYI, if you do not see a Twizzlers display in-store, be sure to look for flavors and varieties on the candy aisle.
I then continued over to the book area to look for coloring books as well as age appropriate items for my kids to read.
Next I visited the toy area to pick up a little block set, a mini pony, and a surprise pack with a miniature train. All these were small making them a perfect fit for a Travel Busy Box.
Now my in-laws happened to be watching the kids that day, so I went straight home to put their entertainment together. For the next 3 days we would be traveling around in the car, so this was great timing.
Travel Busy Box Ideas:
For my 9 year old son I put: colored pencils, a small notebook, a book about Sharks, a fill in the blank word game, and a small block building set.
For my 6 year old daughter I put: colored pencils, a small notebook, a book about a Snowman and Princesses, a Princess Coloring book, and a pony toy.
For my 3 year old I put: crayons, a small notebook, a book about Little Pirates, a themed Coloring Book, and a miniature train.
I also split the Twizzlers Twists in Rainbow flavor and added them to the boxes via a resealable bag.
When my kiddos came home, they immediately wanted to start playing with the contents, however they held off for our road trip. The next day we headed down to my parents house and let’s just say that between the rain, accidents slowing traffic along the way, and waiting in a drive through, these packages came in handy.
Plus once we got to our destination, they continued to be occupied with the contents.
These boxes are easy to refill and before we headed out the following Saturday I even added more Twizzlers Twists in Strawberry flavor.
