A special thank you goes out to Disney for providing me with travel, accommodations, and an exclusive advanced screening of TOMORROWLAND. Opinions expressed are that of my own.
Special Effects, Action, Comedy, and an Optimistic View of the FUTURE! Well that is how TOMORROWLAND begins, and continues throughout this RETRO FUTURISTIC Adventure.
I first got to see a Sneak Peek of TOMORROWLAND back in April during the Monkey Kingdom Event, and after watching the 12 minutes of action packed cinematography, I was totally hooked into the story.
Let’s just say, that scene is pretty AWESOME!
Then after seeing an advanced screening of this entertaining and thought provoking Disney film in Hollywood, I can tell you that I am really looking forward to taking my family to watch it.
Plus visiting Tomorowland at both Disney Parks and getting close to Walt Disney’s vision, really got me into the spirit of the movie.
Just to give you a little background on how this production came to fruition, it was based on an idea initially dreamed up by Jeff Jensen and Damon Lindelof.
Once Director/ Producer/ Writer Brad Bird came into the picture, a box filled with Disney related items from 1952 was discovered, and these 3 individuals collaborated, the movie then became what it is today. See TOMORROWLAND Happens When Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof Collaborate for more details.
Now I do have some interesting insight into this film, because I not only got to interview the Writers, but I also got to listen to George Clooney, Britt Robertson, and Raffey Cassidy speak about the film.
After seeing their enthusiasm, love for their characters, and admiration for one another as actors, it makes this production all the more worthwhile.
In regards to my review of this film, it starts out in the present day with some friendly banter between George Clooney’s Character Frank Walker and Britt Robertson as one of the main heros named Casey Newton.
This then leads you up to how the story begins.
From there the mystery begins to unravel as movie goers are transported back into the past to the 1964 World’s Fair.
In this scene, we see Thomas Robinson as a young Frank Walker enthusiastic about the future and his invention in process.
This is when we are introduced to Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist named David Nix and Raffey Cassidy as Athena.
From there the film is thrusted into action, special effects, and a pretty awesome Jet Pack Scene.
We are then transported to present day to meet Casey and find out about the struggles her family is facing (Father is played by Tim McGraw) and in her academic life, however this does not prevent her from being hopeful about the future.
This optimism is what causes her path to cross with Athena, Frank Walker, and TOMORROWLAND.
In regards to performances in this film, each and every character nailed it.
I was extremely impressed with the ability of George Clooney to transform himself into a middle aged grouch, considering how upbeat and happy he is in person.
In addition, the casting of Thomas Robinson was right on as a young George Clooney.
I was totally convinced Britt Robertson was a teen, and Raffey Cassidy did an amazing job in her action scenes with Kathryn Hahn and Keegan-Michael Key, as well as making Athena a believable individual. I have to also compliment her on her facial expressions, she really became a young Girl from the 1960’s.
Note to parents: Since this is a PG film, there are some scenes that may be scary depending upon your child’s maturity.
Just to give you a heads up, the Robots are in a couple action scenes and are programmed to vaporize anyone that gets in their way.
So there is laser shooting, some fighting, and a few people get vaporized (not graphic though).
In addition, towards the end of the film the are 2 scenes involving death. However, they are an integral part of the story and again are not graphic.
Are you excited about this new film? Who in your family will you be taking to the movie?
