A special thank you goes out to Disney for providing me with travel, accommodations, and this exclusive interview with George Clooney. Opinions expressed are that of my own.
Thank you to Louise Bishop of MomStart.com for providing the exclusive interview photos of George Clooney.
If you would have told me a year ago that I would be heading to LA and standing 3 feet away from George Clooney, I would have told you “GET OUT OF HERE”. But here I am a few days later and still be pretty amazed that I got to discuss the upcoming Disney Film TOMORROWLAND with him along with 24 other bloggers.
Now of course I will admit to being a little nervous about meeting and speaking to a celebrity of this caliber, really mostly afraid that I might get tongue-tied or trip. However as soon as Mr. Clooney entered the room I was completely at ease, I mean anyone who comes in and starts joking “Alright, we have time for one more question,” is a fun person with a great sense of humor.
Needless to say he broke the ice for us and was funny and friendly, plus he gave us great insight into the film. Here are George Clooney’s thoughts on TOMORROWLAND.
One of our questions was, What drew you to the film?
His response, “I first wanted to work with Brad Bird, I just love the kind of films he makes. Then when I read the screenplay I loved the idea of the script, which was the future isn’t just automatically inevitable… there’s something that you can do about it if you pay attention and you work hard.”
Then, we asked Was it fun or difficult to be working with harnesses?
He shared,”I’m never particularly in love with it. Green screen is tricky because you just have to make things up. The thing about being an actor is you really don’t ever have to grow up, we’re still playing make believe.” He later added, “I just wish the jet pack really worked.”
This then lead to the question, What would be one of the futuristic items that would be awesome to have?
George replied,”Let me put it to you this way, so you’re at LAX and you get your bags. (we all start laughing) I’ve got to get to Studio City and it’s 4:30 on a Friday. It would be the greatest moment ever, just blasting right over all the traffic.”
However, he did quickly clarify in a joking manner,”Although, I don’t know that I want everybody to have one, they might be circling my house yelling, “What’s Amal gonna wear to the MET Ball?”.”
Next we asked What his favorite scene was in the movie?
He then revealed, “When Britt (Casey) first comes to the farm house…we really had fun shooting because all the robot guys were really sweet and nice, and not really robots…”.
We then posed, What would be the message of this movie to inspire teenagers?
George then replied, “It’s a Summer movie and not an eat your SPINACH kind of Movie…the truth of the matter is the future is yours to decide what it will be…there’s a world where we have to constantly remind not just young people, ourselves that we’re not just stuck here…”
He also added later in the conversation, “And I feel that we’re losing perspective of the things that are going on in our world, and we think “oh, it’s just nothing but apocalyptic stuff”, and I don’t believe that to be necessarily true… I think that maybe along the way, it would be nice to remind ourselves that there’s an awful lot of good that’s being done…”
To have a little fun before we finished up, we inquired Did you keep any props or memorabilia from the movie?
His response in a playful tone was,”Brad is very, possessive of all those things…so I will not answer what I stole because they will come take it away from me, but it shoots rays and it’s a gun.”
He laughed, we laughed, and he left us just the way he greeted us, with a grin. Stayed tuned, there will be a Part 2 to this interview.
