My family enjoys a good Chicken Salad and whether I add fruits or vegetables, I like to keep the combination interesting.
I try to surprise my kids with new ingredients like apples, cranberries, nuts, and green onions. Recently to spice it up, I even added El Yucateco Habanera Hot Sauce to the recipe. It was a delicious hit!
Earlier in the week, I had told my kids we would be having Chicken Salad Wraps for lunch. So after dinner one night, I headed up to Publix to pick up a few of the ingredients.
While there, I grabbed a bag of dried cranberries and then paid a visit to the Ethnic Foods section.
On the top shelf, I found 3 varieties of El Yucateco Hot Sauce including Red Habanero, Green Habanero, and XXXtra Hot Kutbil-ik. The tough decision would be picking which flavor to try first, I grabbed one of each.
While shopping, one of the associates happened to notice my selection and told me that his mom really liked the Green Habanero. He shared that she used it a lot in her cooking and even added it to soups.
After I got home, I looked at the heat and colors of the sauces and thought it best to initially use the Red Habanero Hot Sauce in my dish.
To make the Chicken Salad, I would use tortillas that I already had on hand along with a 10 oz Can of Publix Brand Chunk White Chicken. I also added in 2 tablespoons of diced green onions from my garden and 2 heaping tablespoons of Mayonnaise.
I then added in a 1/2 cup of dried cranberries along with 1 teaspoon of El Yucateco Hot Sauce.
I made sure to completely combine all the ingredients to help spread out the “spiciness”.
The Chicken Salad had a pretty hue from the hot sauce along with pops of green and red from the cranberries. The portion was enough to make 3 wraps, which I in turn cut into halves.
This recipe had a great balance of sweet and spicy. Did I mention already that my family LOVED it?
What is your favorite way to make Chicken Salad? Do you ever add hot sauce to everyday foods to “Spice It Up”?

I can’t wait to do this again, my son has already put in a request to try out one of the other sauces.
