I always seem to receive a ton of tissue paper from birthday parties and other events. Usually I will use the pieces that are not too wrinkled in another gift, but sometimes they are just destroyed and cannot be reused. Rather than throw the paper away, I found another way to upcycle it. As a bonus, it keeps my kids entertained and makes a pretty nice looking piece of artwork.
If you want to create this craft, this is all you will need:
- Used or new tissue paper (try wrapping paper as well)
- Scissors
- Printer paper
- Pencil or pen
- Glue
Here is how you do it:
Simply cut the tissue paper into small pieces. Then, draw a pattern on the paper for the kiddos to glue the tissue paper onto. Make sure it is dark enough so you can see it through the paper once they are finished. We drew hearts, flowers, and butterflies.
Depending upon your child’s age, you may want to let them trace the design.
Next, have them glue on layer after layer of tissue paper in various colors to create the Mosaic. FYI, you do not need very much glue for it to stick, and they need not stay in the lines since you will be cutting it out.
Once the glue is dry, flip the paper over and cut out your pattern. Depending upon your child’s age, you may want to let them do this.
Finally, look for a HIGHLY visible area to display the artwork!
How do you upcycle tissue paper? Have you created this craft before?
I hope this inspires another fun activity, and if you try it out let me know what you think!
