The following is a sponsored post of behalf of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and the Curious George’s Town App. Opinions expressed are that of my own.
Here is my son playing the Library Match Game in the ap.
I was asked to review the Curious George’s Town App for iPad and iPhone with my children here on Frugal and Fun Mom. Since my mother and father happen to both have iPhones (iPhone 4) we loaded this onto their devices and let the grand kids check the games out.
Curious George’s Town App has been developed for pre-school to kindergarten-aged children, and teaches hand eye coordination, numbers, letters, colors, and so much more. Throughout the app, The Man with the Yellow Hat narrates and gives the children positive reinforcement once they have completed a task correctly. If they make an error he guides them in the right direction. As they complete each game, they earn coins and these can be redeemed to build up their town with farms, dinosaurs, tents, and other features.
Some of the adorable games include one at the bakery that incorporates counting and colors, a library game that has matching letters to books, and one at the pet store that has animal and food matching. In addition, there is a pet search game that teaches colors and numbers, a game at the park with recycling/ picture recognition, and a market game with numbers/ picture recognition.
As a bonus, there is a customizable reward chart built into the app. Parents can compensate their children with the game coins for everyday accomplishments such as chores, school work and good behavior. This teaches children to delay spending (deferred gratification) in order to accomplish a goal (building their town). I haven’t even had a chance to explore this part of the app yet.
My daughter’s favorite part of the app was the cake decorating.
I really like Curious George’s Town App because it rewards the kids through positive reinforcement and coins. In addition, I like that it requires the user to follow directions and teaches letters, numbers, and colors all at the same time. Of course the best part is my kids are occupied with a fun and educational app.
